Efficient Diesel Storage & Distribution System for V&A Waterfront’s Generators

In response to South Africa’s ongoing electricity supply challenges and frequent power outages, V&A Waterfront required a reliable, centralised fuel solution to ensure uninterrupted power for 8 of their standby generators.

The 8 generators are scattered across the sprawling mixed use suburb. Some serving individual tenants, others grouped into energy centres serving entire buildings. A complex distributed standby power system.

We delivered a state-of-the-art diesel storage and distribution system designed for optimal efficiency and safety. Our custom-engineered setup features a large, secure storage tank equipped with advanced monitoring to maintain fuel levels and quality.

The above ground storage tank is positioned in a high risk area and to mitigate against fire risks, is installed inside an ISO container. Not only is this solution modular, scalable and quick to relocate, the container itself is modified with composite thermal insulation materials in order to give 4 hours’ worth of fire protection.

Using a sophisticated piping network made up of both above and below ground piping, we seamlessly distribute and meter diesel to all 8 generators, ensuring consistent, documented and reliable power supply across the waterfront. The system’s design minimizes downtime, reduces manual handling, and enhances operational safety through automated controls and leak detection.

All necessary regulatory approvals are in place and the installation is fully compliant to City of Cape Town by laws.
